Security and Fraud Awareness

At KBC Bank Ireland we are committed to protecting our customers from fraud and other online security threats. While we may contact you to discuss the operation of your account we will never contact you and ask for your personal banking details - like account numbers, PIN and other login details.

Never disclose your personal banking login or other details in response to any unsolicited request. It is your responsibility to ensure that you keep your personal banking login details safe. You should never disclose data over the internet unless you have satisfied yourself as to the security of the related technology/encryption.

We use a variety of security measures, including a Digital Key to assist in maintaining the confidentiality of your personal information. Your personal information is stored behind firewalls and other security controls, and is only accessible by a limited number of people who are required to keep the information confidential.

See through the Scam

Crypto Fraud

Beware of fraudsters who offer false crypto investments through pop ups and cold calls. Verify those contacting you, and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Phishing

Beware of fraudsters who contact you via email asking for sensitive information. In most cases, they won’t address you by name.

Vishing

Beware of phone calls requesting sensitive information from those pretending to be legitimate. Don’t ever give sensitive information over the phone unless you can verify the caller.

Online Shopping

Online shopping fraud is when someone else makes purchases with your card. Watch out for websites missing the ‘s’ for secure in ‘https’.

Social Media Scams

Beware of scammers on social media as platforms allow them to blend in among real people. Watch out for ‘miracle products’, fake comments on popular posts, and direct contact from those you don’t know.

Ransomware

Beware of ransomware, a malicious software that locks and encrypts your software and demands a ransom to give control of your software back. It’s often downloaded via compromised sites.

Rental Scams

Watch out for rental properties on legitimate sites that require a deposit before viewing the property. Never transfer money until you have been inside the house or before you have the keys.

Smishing

Beware of text messages that ask you to click links to bogus websites or give up sensitive information. Look up the number online to verify it.

Working from Home Scams

Watch out for unsolicited emails from overseas companies that offer easy money and require no education or experience. Never accept a job that requires you to transfer money through your account.

IT Support Scams

Watch out for unsolicited callers offering tech support you don’t need for a computer issue that doesn’t exist. Never transfer money for tech support even if they’re disguised as a legitimate company.
